How to Read Maytag Range Error Codes
When a Maytag range detects a fault, it displays an error code on the control panel and may beep or lock the controls. The code identifies which component or circuit has reported an error, helping narrow the diagnosis before you call for service.
Common Error Codes
F3 E0 or F4 E0 — Oven Temperature Sensor Fault
The oven temperature sensor (RTD probe) reads out of the acceptable range. F3 typically means an open circuit (sensor disconnected or failed) and F4 means a short circuit. The sensor is a thin probe mounted on the rear wall of the oven interior.
DIY fix: With power off, reseat the sensor connector at the control board. If the code returns, test the sensor resistance — it should read approximately 1,000-1,100 ohms at room temperature. An infinite or near-zero reading means the sensor needs replacement. This is a low-cost, straightforward repair.
F5 E0 — Door Latch Fault
The door latch motor or switch has failed. The oven cannot confirm the door is locked (required for self-cleaning) or unlocked. Check that nothing is blocking the door from closing fully.
F1 E0 — Control Board Fault
An internal control board error. This code often appears after a power surge. Try a hard reset: turn off the circuit breaker for 5 minutes, then restore power. If the code returns, the control board requires diagnosis or replacement.
F2 E0 — Oven Over-Temperature
The oven exceeded the safe temperature limit. This can occur if the oven was in self-clean mode and overheated, or if a relay on the control board has stuck in the closed position, keeping an element energized. Turn off the range at the breaker immediately and do not use the oven until it has been inspected.
F9 E0 — Door Lock Error
The lock motor could not complete its travel within the time allowed. If this happens during or after a self-clean cycle, allow the oven to cool fully before attempting to reset.
Resetting Error Codes
Many codes clear with a power cycle. Turn off the range at the circuit breaker for 5 minutes, then restore power. If the same code returns immediately, the underlying fault has not been resolved and the range needs service from a qualified Maytag technician.
Why Professional Service May Be the Right Choice
While many Range issues can be addressed with the steps in this guide, there are situations where attempting a DIY repair can make the problem worse or void your warranty. If you've followed the steps above and the issue persists, or if you're not comfortable working with electrical components or water connections, calling a factory-certified technician is the safest and most cost-effective path forward.
Maytag Appliance Solutions technicians are trained directly to Maytag's service specifications. They arrive with the most common OEM replacement parts already on the vehicle, which means most repairs are completed in a single visit — no waiting for parts to be ordered.
Preventing the Problem from Recurring
Most Range issues that require repair are preventable with regular maintenance. Key habits that extend appliance life and reduce fault frequency:
- Clean filters regularly. Lint filters, drain pump filters, and water inlet screens accumulate debris over time. A clogged filter is one of the most common causes of performance issues and error codes.
- Don't overload. Consistently running your Range beyond its rated capacity puts extra stress on the motor, drum bearings, and suspension components.
- Use the correct detergent and amounts. Excess detergent — especially non-HE detergent in HE appliances — causes buildup, mold, and sensor errors over time.
- Check hoses and connections annually. Inspect inlet and drain hoses for cracks, kinks, or loose connections at least once a year, especially if your appliance is more than five years old.
- Level the appliance. An unlevel Range vibrates excessively during operation, accelerating wear on internal components and causing noise and balance errors.
Maytag Warranty and Service Coverage
Maytag offers a standard one-year parts and labor warranty on most appliances, with extended coverage on specific components. If your appliance is still within its manufacturer warranty period, contact Maytag directly before scheduling an independent repair, as unauthorized service may affect warranty coverage.
For appliances outside the warranty period, Maytag Appliance Solutions provides a 30 day parts and labor warranty on every repair we complete. All replacement parts are genuine Maytag OEM components sourced directly from Maytag's authorized parts network.
Stuck or unsure? Don't risk it.
If at any point a step doesn't match what you're seeing, stop and call in a pro. DIY gone wrong can cost more than a professional diagnosis — and our techs carry most Maytag parts on every vehicle.
