About This Recall
Maytag Corporation, in cooperation with the CPSC, announced a recall of approximately 1.7 million Maytag-brand dishwashers. An electrical failure in the dishwasher’s heating element can pose a fire hazard.
Maytag received 12 reports of heating element failures resulting in fires, with reports of up to $80,000 in property damage. No injuries were reported.
Affected Models
The dishwashers were sold under the Maytag, Jenn-Air, Amana, Admiral, Magic Chef, Performa by Maytag, and Crosley brand names. Model and serial numbers are located on the top-left side of the dishwasher’s interior door.
Recall Remedy
Maytag offered consumers a free in-home repair or a rebate toward the purchase of a new Maytag-brand dishwasher. The repair permanently deactivates the heating element in the wash cycle; a new element and control are installed for drying.
Our factory-certified technicians can inspect your dishwasher and confirm whether it is part of the recall.
What to do next
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled dishwashers, disconnect the electric supply, and contact Maytag for a free repair. Do not operate the dishwasher until the repair has been completed by an authorized service provider.
