About This Recall
Maytag recalled approximately 15,000 over-the-range microwave ovens because the door latch can fail, allowing the microwave to continue operating with the door open. This presented a potential burn or radiation-exposure hazard.
Maytag received three reports of the door opening during operation. No injuries were reported.
Affected Models
The microwaves were sold at Lowe’s, Home Depot, Sears, and other major appliance retailers from March 2010 through August 2011. Model numbers begin with MMV4203 or MMV5208.
What to Do
Unplug the microwave and contact Maytag for a free inspection and replacement of the door latch assembly. Do not use the microwave until the repair is complete.
What to do next
Consumers should stop using the microwave immediately and contact Maytag for a free door latch replacement. Do not attempt to repair the door latch yourself. Disconnect power until the unit is inspected by an authorized technician.
